Accessibility Statement
We want Owitics Flashcards to be usable by as many learners as possible. This statement describes what we have implemented, what we know is not perfect yet, and how you can tell us about barriers.
What We Have Implemented
- Full keyboard operation of the study area: arrow keys to change cards, Space to flip, P to pronounce.
- Audio pronunciation of every word in German and English, supporting learners who benefit from hearing as well as reading.
- Illustrations that convey a word's meaning without requiring English.
- Text colours checked for sufficient contrast against their backgrounds.
- Reduced-motion support: if your device requests less animation, the site's animations are disabled.
- Semantic HTML structure (headings, labels on all form fields) for screen readers.
- The site works across screen sizes, with touch-friendly controls fixed within reach on phones.
Known Limitations
- Card illustrations currently have no individual text alternatives; the word itself is always presented as text alongside the image.
- Audio pronunciation depends on the voices installed on your device and may vary in quality.
- The gender colour-coding is supplementary: the article (der/die/das) is always also written on the card, so no information is conveyed by colour alone.
Feedback
If you encounter a barrier that makes the site difficult for you to use, please tell us via the contact form. We take these reports seriously and prioritise fixes.
